Glycolysis

(Voet & Voet Chapter 16)

1). What kind of high energy end compound(s) is produced by Glycolysis under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, and how many of them are produced per glucose molecule? (The overall reactions)

2). The significance of Homolactic and Acoholic fermentations in Glycolysis and where does it take place.

3). How is the 2,3-Bisphosphoglycerate (2,3-BPG or 2,3-DPG) synthesized and its physiological significance?

4). How is the Glycolysis pathway controlled (pay special attention to Phosphofructokinase)?

5). Thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) and the decarboxylation mechanism.

6). Where is/are the Substrate Cycling(s) in the Glycolysis pathway? How does the Futile Cycle avoid at this(these) point(s)? And than, how can the Thermogenesis take place at this(these) points?

7). What kind(s) of enzyme defects can be found in Galactosemia patients?
